This weekend was great for the Fleet Feet Racing Team from Alabama to Louisiana to Tennessee.

At the Mardi Gras Marathon in New Orleans, Katie Maehlmann ran 3:35:57, qualifying for the Boston Marathon. Rick Maehlmann ran 3:41:14 and together they completed thier 15th state in quest of running a marathon in all 50. Brett Addington added to his impressive sub 3 hour marathon list with a 2:57:14, finishing 41st overall.

In the Talladega National Forest, the Racing Team dominated the leaderboard at Mount Cheaha 50km. DeWayne Satterfield ran a personal best time of 4:36:00 and finished 2nd overall. Eric Charette broke the 5 hour mark with a 4:54:07 for 6th place. Dink Taylor has now competed in every running of this difficult point to point ultra marathon.

Greg Reynolds made Huntsville proud in Memphis this weekend by finishing 2nd overall in the Move it Memphios 10k. Greg's 37:41 is an outstanding early season time on this difficult course.

The Fleet Feet Racing Team looks to continue their winning ways this coming weekend. Last weekend the team claimed overall victories at two different ultra marathons. In Moulton, Alabama, DeWayne Satterfield topped the the competition at Black Warrior 50km in 3:54:42. DeWayne also won the 50km the last time he ran this race in 2007 with a similar 3:54:22. Finishing in second place was fellow race team member Eric Schotz with a 4:59:38. Christy Scott overcame a wrong turn during the race to still post a 5:58:46. James Falcon battled IT Band issues to finish at 5:44.

In the 25km race, Rob Youngren ran 1:47:07 and Eric Charette ran 1:51:42, finishing in 4th oand 5th place overall. On the women's side, Kathy Youngren took overall honors with a 2:07, a full 6 minutes over her nearest competitor.

In Mountain View, Arkansas, David Riddle was the overall winner of the Sylamore 50k. David's win was over quality competition and continues his unbeaten streak in ultra marathons to 5. David said that he was in awe at the shear cliffs that the trail ran along with incredible views down below. David's time of 3:48 was just off of the course record which remains in tact for Fleet Feet Huntsville owner Dink Taylor from the year 2000. David was 7 minutes ahead of 2nd place finisher, Nick Lewis.

50km Official Results

This upcoming weekend is the Mount Cheaha 50k, part of the Montrail Ultra Cup. This point to point ultra marathon traverses along 80% single track trail through the Talladega National Forest and finishes at the summit of Cheaha Mountain which at 2,407' is the highest point in Alabama. Competing from the team are Joey Butler, Steve Carter, Eric Charette, Dana Overton, DeWayne Satterfield, Linda Scarvarda and Dink Taylor.

In New Orleans, several team members will be running the Rock n Roll Mardi Gras Marathon. Brett Addington will be looking for another sub 3 hour marathon to add to his collection, while Rick and Katie Maehlmann are running the full as their 15th state (in quest of 50).

In Memphis, Greg Reynolds is running the Move It Memphis 10km. After a great track workout this week with the team, Greg proved that his running fitness is still top notch and he should be amongst the leaders.

Who’s Racing This Weekend

The Fleet Feet Racing Team looks to dominate on the the trails outside of the Huntsville area this weekend.

In Mountain View, Arkansas, David Riddle will be running the Sylamore 50km through the Ozark National Forest. The course record is held by Fleet Feet Huntsville owner Dink Taylor, who ran 3:40:37 in 2000. He is up against some stellar talent, including Nick Lewis of Memphis, who ran 17:44 at Leadville 100 last year, but only registered a 4:29 at Sylamore last year. There is major prize money on the line if David can better the course record, so best wishes to him on his race.

In Moulton, Alabama, Eric Charette, Shane O'Neill, Rob Youngren and Kathy Youngren will be competing in the Black Warrior 25km. The course is mostly single track trails over rolling terrain n the Bankhead National Forest. The trails are frequently used by horses and when combined with the wet weather in the area lately, the course will have some shoe-sucking mud for sure. James Falcon, Eric Schotz, DeWayne Satterfield and Christy Scott are running the 50km distance, which involves the Pine Torch Loop and the Key Mill Loop trails.

Fleet Feet Racing Team dominates at Winter Winds

If the snow on Sunday morning would not have been melted by the sun, it would surely would have been after the scorching performances by the Racing Team at the Huntsville Track Club's Winter Winds.

In the 2 mile race, Eric Charette took the lead before the 1/2 mile mark and held on for the overall win. Charette managed a negative split on the rolling hill course, running 5:21 in the first mile and 5:17 in the second mile. Rob Youngren made it very interesting with a surge up the Double Tree Lane hill and finished just two seconds behind for 2nd place. Fleet Feet Racing captured the top 5 overall spots with George DeWitt, Donald Bowman and Kevin Betts finishing 3-4-5.

On the female side. Candace Jacobs broke the 12 minute mark, finishing at 11:59 and taking the overall win by 40 seconds over her nearest competitor.

The 4 mile race started just 30 minutes after the 2 mile race started, so runners doubling up had just 15 minutes at most to get ready to race again.

Lucas Sieb of Scottsboro proved to be too much for anyone to handle as he ran away with the victory in 21:14. George DeWitt came back and was top male masters runner, finishing 4h overall. Candace set a state age record with her 25:10, making it a perfect two for two on wins for the day.

Who’s Racing This Weekend

This is the first weekend of the spring road racing season in Huntsville, though with temperatures in the 30's or less, it certainly does not feel like it.

The Fleet Feet Racing Team will have at least 10 members running the Huntsville Track Club's Winter Winds on Sunday starting from Grissom High School. This event offers two races back to back starting with a 2 mile and then a 4 mile. Many runners will compete in both events.

At first glance, Candace should have a shot at top honors for females, but the men's side looks wide open for anyone willing to dig deep.

Thompson, Taylor run sub 24 at Rocky

Team members Blake Thompson and Fleet Feet Huntsville Owner Dink Taylor smash the magical 24 hour mark at Rocky Raccoon 100 miler in Huntsville, Texas. They finished in 20 hours, 33 minutes, running every step of the race together. This is Blake's 3rd 100 mile race and his first sub 24 hour finish, which was his goal for running Rocky.

Who's Racing This Weekend

As the calendar turns onto another year, so do the runners in Northern Alabama turn to the majestic trails atop Monte Sano in preparation for Mountain Mist 50km.

This is the 16th year that the Huntsville Track Club and Race Director Dink Taylor have held this great race. What started with fewer than 50 runners has grown to 350 pre-registered runners and now ranks in the top 10 largest 50km races in the country. This year it took just 12 days back in October for this race to reach max capacity.

Fleet Feet Racing Team

The Fleet Feet Racing Team was created to increase awareness about Fleet Feet Sports, assist in marketing of the store and to provide unity amongst some of the most skilled runners in the local area.

The 2010 team will be a collection of runners who will focus on building the sport in our community via stewardship, being a role model, participation in training programs, voluntarism and achieving competitive race results.

2010 Selection Process

With high demand for fewer team slots, there will now be an application process for the Racing Team. To be considered, you must download the application from the link below, read the team requirements, complete the required fields and e-mail it to us. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The team will then be comprised of runners who will be selected based on how well you meet all of the documented criteria as listed below.

2010 Team Season

The new season begins on April 1 of each year. The application window is from January 1 to February 15 and members will be selected and notified by March 1. At that time, the team will be announced and the additional communications will be sent with instructions for the upcoming season.

2010 Member Requirements

A Fleet Feet Racing Team Member is someone who:

Regularly finishes in the top 10% of events that they are racing or are likely to place in their age/gender group and meet the competitive performance guidelines listed below.
Frequently volunteers for Fleet Feet sponsored events, including races, fun runs, social events or training runs.
Supports Fleet Feet by being an ambassador to the brand and encouraging people by referring them to shop at the store.
Is a member of the Huntsville Track Club and promotes HTC events through racing and/or volunteering

Competitive Performance Guidelines

These standards are not absolute requirements for membership. They are intended to provide a guideline for potential applicants. These results should have been within the last calendar year. We appreciate interest, but if you do not meet the competitive requirements, we ask that you please do not apply.

Age 49 and under

Men 5k - 21:30, 10k - 44:30, ½ Marathon - 1:38:30, Marathon - 3:25:00
Female 5k - 23:15, 10k – 48:00, ½ Marathon - 1:46:30, Marathon 3:40:00

Age 50 and over

Men 5k - 22:15, 10k - 46:00, ½ Marathon - 1:43:00, Marathon - 3:33:00
Female 5k - 25:15, 10k - 52:15, ½ Marathon - 1:56:00, Marathon 4:00:00

2010 Team Code of Conduct

If selected as a Race Team Member, you agree to:

Understand that wearing Fleet Feet branded apparel for training is important and in races is mandatory.
Understand that there are not minimum requirements for the number of races you compete in per year or the number of times that you volunteer, but that our members typically race 6 or more times per year and volunteer just as often.
Regularly communicate with the Team Captain via email.
Complete an updated bio, including personal records and future goals (part of the application) that will be featured on the Racing Team Website.
Not participate in running for, or support of, any other specialty running or athletic store in the local area.
Conduct in an appropriate manner during the time you are in a Fleet Feet uniform and act as a role model to other participants, no matter the circumstance.
Understand that your personal behavior matters and Fleet Feet reserves the rights at anytime to remove you from the team.
Recognize the importance of your visibility at races in Fleet Feet apparel from the time you arrive through the award ceremonies to show your support.

2010 Team Membership Dues

Despite many racing teams charging annual dues in excess of $100 per year, Fleet Feet Racing Team Huntsville remains free of charge for those who are selected to the team. It is our belief that your participation, volunteerism and ambassadorship to the store are valuable and worth the investment that you receive in team benefits.
